Information about the Non-Lucrative Visa

The non-lucrative visa in Spain is intended for foreign individuals who wish to reside in the country without engaging in labor or commercial activities. It is an ideal document for those who want to live in the country for an extended period without the need to work or receive income. From the very beginning, it is possible to include your family unit.

Main requirements and characteristics:

Proof of sufficient income: The applicant must demonstrate that they have sufficient financial means to support themselves in Spain without the need to work.

Health insurance: It is necessary to have private health insurance that covers any eventuality during the stay in Spain. The insurance must be valid throughout the Spanish territory and provide full coverage without limitations.

Not engage in lucrative activities: Visa holders cannot work or generate income through remunerated activities within Spain. This means that, although they can continue their professional activity or business from outside the country, they cannot work for a Spanish company or start a business here.

Criminal record: The applicant must present a criminal record certificate from their country of origin, as well as the records from any other country where they have resided in the last five years.

Medical certificate: The applicant must certify that they do not suffer from any disease that could pose a risk to public health in Spain.

Submission of the application: It must be submitted at the Spanish consulate in the applicant's country of residence. It is advisable to check the specific requirements at the corresponding embassy or consulate.

Processing time: It is usually 1 to 3 months, depending on the workload of the consulate.

Duration of the visa: If the application is approved, it is valid for one year, and it can be renewed for additional periods of 2 years. After 5 years of residence, permanent residency can be requested, provided that the established requirements are met.

Permanent residency: After 5 years of continuous residence in Spain with this visa, it is possible to apply for permanent residency. This grants greater stability and the option to work in the country.
